Theme(s): Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)

Please join the Runnymede Society’s Lakehead Student Chapter and Lakehead Christian Legal Fellowship for an engaging discussion about Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) and its implications for law, ethics, and faith in Canada on Tuesday, October 28th!

This event will feature David Shannon, a lawyer and disability rights advocate who has received the Order of Canada; Dr. Jaro Kotalik, a physician and bioethicist at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine; and Dr. Ramona Coelho, a family physician and health-policy scholar who sits on Ontario’s MAiD Death Review Committee.

Together, they will explore the evolving legal and moral landscape surrounding MAiD, including questions of autonomy, vulnerability, conscience, and the value of human dignity. Through a respectful dialogue, the speakers will offer distinct yet complementary perspectives on how MAiD challenges our understanding of compassion, justice, and the role of law in end-of-life decisions.

Lunch will be provided!
