Please join the Runnymede Society’s University of Alberta Chapter for a presentation on trends in urban violent crime with Prof. Dave Snow (University of Guelph) on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Drawing on findings from the Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s 2025 Urban Violent Crime Report, Prof. Snow will examine long-term patterns in police-reported violent crime across Canada’s largest cities. Using Statistics Canada data, the report analyzes trends in homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault, robbery, overall violent crime rates, and the violent crime severity index, revealing a sustained rise in violent crime nationwide rather than isolated or short-term fluctuations.
