In this presentation, Professor Dwight Newman of the University of Saskatchewan (who has completed graduate studies in History of Christianity in addition to his prior graduate studies in Law and in Philosophy of Law) will discuss his law and religion work-in-progress. It is all oriented around the theme of the respective places of individuals and communities – in religious freedom claims, in issues concerning heresy (on through to very recent heresy proceedings), and in perspectives concerning an individual’s choice to depart from a religious community.
