Theme(s): Bike Lanes, Section 7

Please join the Runnymede Society’s Queen’s University Chapter for a panel discussion on Cycle Toronto et al. v. Attorney General of Ontario et al., 2025 ONSC 4397 with Professor Mark Walters (Queen’s University) and Professor Jamie Cameron (Osgoode Hall Law School), on Thursday, March 12th.

This panel will examine the Ontario Superior Court of Justice’s decision striking down the province’s plan to remove protected bike lanes in Toronto. The discussion will focus on the scope and limits of section 7 of the Charter, including whether the ruling signals an expansion of the state’s positive obligations to protect life and security of the person. The speakers will also consider the decision’s implications for judicial deference and the role of courts in contested areas of public policy.
