Copy of Unlocking the Power of Freedom of Information Law (1)

In this lecture, Devin Drover, General Counsel for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, will introduce law students to the practical applications of Freedom of Information (FOI) laws and their critical role in legal practice. Recognized for their quasi-constitutional status in Canada, FOI laws are powerful tools for ensuring transparency and accountability in both government and public institutions. Focusing on public interest and private litigation, as well as general dealings with government, Devin Drover will demonstrate how FOI requests can help build stronger cases, uncover key evidence, and hold governments accountable. Students will learn how understanding and leveraging FOI laws can become an indispensable skill set, whether in litigation, negotiation, or client representation, preparing them to succeed in diverse areas of law, including in the context of public finance and taxation in particular.
