Calgary Lawyer Chapter Cowichan (May 21, 2026)
Theme(s): Aboriginal Title, Cowichan Tribes, Property Rights

The Runnymede Society’s Calgary Lawyer Chapter is pleased to invite you to a complimentary fireside chat with Professor Dwight Newman (University of Saskatchewan) on the recent Cowichan Tribes decision and its implications for Aboriginal title and property rights law in Canada.

Professor Newman is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Rights, Communities, and Constitutional Law at the University of Saskatchewan and has written and spoken extensively on Cowichan and its broader constitutional impact.

The recent decision has attracted national attention after the Court contended that the Cowichan Nation never surrendered certain territory in British Columbia, raising significant legal questions concerning Aboriginal title, reconciliation, and property rights law in Canada.

Doors will open at 6:00 PM, with food served prior to the discussion. The fireside chat will begin at approximately 6:30 PM and will conclude with a Q&A period.

Space is limited. RSVP is required.
